Child malnutrition in Afghanistan surges as refugee numbers grow

Afghanistan is dealing with a deepening crisis regarding child malnutrition, as approximately one out of every 10 children under the age of five is currently experiencing acute malnutrition. According to Save the Children, there has been a 14% increase in these cases over the past four years, impacting 3.7 million children throughout 2026. The strain on humanitarian aid is being exacerbated by a combination of drought, disease, reduced funding, displacement, and the arrival of millions of people returning from Pakistan and Iran.
