Centre denies connection between E20 fuel policy and sugar price hike
The Food Ministry has addressed the recent surge in sugar costs, which climbed from ₹48.18 per kg on July 20 to a peak of ₹55.70 per kg by August 20. Officials dismissed claims that the government's E20 ethanol initiative is driving these price hikes. Instead, the ministry attributed the trend to reduced domestic output, higher market demand, weather-impacted harvests, and restricted international availability. The government further assured that there is a sufficient supply of sugar currently in stock.
