Can banks be held responsible for blocking debit cards without warning?
If a bank disables a customer's debit card without prior notification, they could be found guilty of unfair trade practices and service deficiencies. In a recent instance, the Ernakulam District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission directed Federal Bank to compensate a customer with ₹1.25 lakh. The bank had blocked the individual's card without any warning, which resulted in the customer and his family being left stranded at Kuwait International Airport.
