Calcutta HC upholds Ritabrata Banerjee's position as West Bengal LoP
The Calcutta High Court has ruled that rebel TMC MLA Ritabrata Banerjee will keep his role as the Leader of Opposition in West Bengal. The court dismissed a petition that contested the Speaker's move to name Ritabrata as LoP, which followed backing from 58 out of 80 MLAs. During the proceedings, the High Court took note of the Speaker's claims that the paperwork submitted to prove unanimous support for Mamata Banerjee’s candidate, Sobhandeb Chattopadhyay, had been falsified.
