CAG report: Railways collected ₹168 crore in 'superfast' fees for slower trains
A report from the CAG revealed that Indian Railways charged passengers ₹168 crore in 'superfast surcharges' from April 2022 to March 2023, despite the trains not qualifying as superfast. This surcharge is typically applied to services that maintain an average speed of at least 55 km/h. The extra fees were gathered from travelers across more than 190 different trains.
