Bombay HC permits cutting of 847 mangroves for bullet train project
The Bombay High Court has granted permission to remove 847 mangrove trees to facilitate infrastructure work related to the Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train corridor. Describing the decision as an "exceptional measure," the bench emphasized that this ruling should not be viewed as a precedent for future cases. Additionally, the court criticized the Maharashtra government for its failure to carry out reforms intended to improve the transparency and ecological effectiveness of compensatory afforestation efforts.
