Bhopal residents angry after mature trees cut down for plantation drive
A tree-planting initiative in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, has triggered significant backlash following reports that hundreds of fully-grown trees were cut down to make room for new saplings. The clearing occurred in the Kaliyasot region, where the local municipal corporation had hired a contractor to plant approximately 10,000 saplings. In response to the incident, the civic authorities have launched an investigation and penalized the contractor with a fine of ₹3.5 lakh.
