Bengaluru: ₹5,000 penalty for wasting drinking water

To combat the worsening water shortage in Bengaluru, the BWSSB has rolled out stringent conservation guidelines. Anyone caught using potable water for tasks like washing cars, gardening, building construction, cleaning streets, or filling swimming pools will be charged a fine of ₹5,000. Property owners are now required to fit aerators and flow restrictors, and those who continue to break these rules may face extra fines or a cut in their water supply.
