Banking sector liquidity reaches 4-month peak at ₹5 lakh crore

On August 30, the surplus liquidity within the Indian banking sector climbed to approximately ₹5.05 lakh crore. This marks the highest point since April 15, 2026, when the figure reached ₹5.22 lakh crore. This increase was driven by significant government expenditure at the end of the month alongside inflows from foreign currency deposits. Surplus liquidity represents the extra funds that banks maintain over and above their essential operational requirements and regulatory reserve obligations.
