Bangladesh hit by record-breaking measles crisis with nearly 1,000 deaths

Bangladesh is currently dealing with the largest measles outbreak globally, despite previously being near the point of eradicating the disease. Since March, there have been 999 deaths linked to measles, both confirmed and suspected. This surge follows significant interruptions to standard vaccination programs during 2024 and 2025, a period marked by political instability in the nation. To date, Bangladesh has documented more than 166,000 suspected cases of the virus.
