Anthropic's Claude Code tracker sparks spying concerns among Chinese users
Anthropic is facing allegations of monitoring Chinese users via a concealed tracker embedded in Claude Code. A security researcher known as 'Thereallo' alleged that the tool transmitted user data, including timezones, proxy details, and potential links to AI research labs, back to Anthropic. In response, Anthropic engineer Thariq Shihipar stated that the feature was part of an experiment designed to curb account abuse by unauthorized resellers and safeguard the company against model distillation.
