Ancient Homeric text discovered on 1,600-year-old mummy
Experts have unearthed a papyrus fragment resting on the stomach of a 1,600-year-old Egyptian mummy which features verses from the Iliad, Homer’s famous chronicle of the Trojan War. This epic, which dates back to the 8th century BC, was composed earlier than The Odyssey. According to researchers, this marks the first time a significant piece of Greek literature has been recovered alongside a mummy.
