Ancient Americans relied on mammoths and giant sloths for food, research finds
According to a study featured in Science Advances, the diet of early Americans consisted primarily of creatures such as mammoths and giant sloths, with herbivores accounting for 88% of their food intake. These groups moved across continents, utilizing stone implements to hunt their prey. The researchers noted that once species like mammoths and sloths died out, early Americans had to change their eating habits and establish more permanent settlements.
