Amazon Zoox recalls 105 robotaxis over smoke detection concerns
Amazon-owned Zoox is pulling back 105 of its self-driving cars. The company found that these vehicles might not properly spot thick smoke, which could create problems for emergency crews. This flaw was identified following an incident on June 20 in Las Vegas, where an empty robotaxi drove into a fire zone, hit the brakes unexpectedly, and required remote assistance to exit. This recall happens as the United States continues to tighten its oversight regarding the safety of autonomous vehicles.
