AI chipmaker stocks drop 14% following DeepSeek chip production news
Shares of Micron Technology, AMD, and SanDisk tumbled by as much as 15% following news that DeepSeek plans to produce its own AI chips. AMD and Micron saw their stock values decline by 9%, while SanDisk experienced a 14% drop. This move could reduce DeepSeek's dependence on chips from Nvidia and Huawei, which currently power its AI model training and operations. At present, Huawei holds a 50% share of the $50-billion AI chip market in China.
