AI chatbots prove more effective than humans in romance scams: Research
A study involving researchers from four universities, including one based in India, reveals that AI chatbots are more successful than human scammers at gaining trust during romance fraud. In experimental trials, an AI chatbot managed to convince almost 50% of the participants to install an app, whereas human scammers only achieved an 18% success rate. Additionally, participants reported trusting the AI chatbot more than the human scammers.
