Several key international shipping passages, including the Bosphorus, Dardanelles, Bab el-Mandeb, Cape of Good Hope, and the Strait of Gibraltar, allow vessels to transit at no cost. While the Strait of Malacca does not impose a mandatory toll, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Singapore do accept voluntary payments to help fund the upkeep of navigational equipment. Conversely, vessels are required to pay transit charges when navigating through the Suez and Panama canals.
