150-year-old book returned to Australian library, late fees hit ₹19 lakh
A volume checked out from a public library in Australia roughly 150 years ago has been brought back. The book was found tucked away inside a tea chest that had been walled into a fireplace while a house was being renovated. The 1858 edition, titled 'Antiquities of Athens', was handed over to the Kiama library. Staff noted that if they applied the library’s standard late-fee policy, the total fine for the overdue item would reach approximately ₹18.7 lakh.
