150-year-old artwork depicts the meeting of Odysseus and Argus
Housed at the Manchester Art Gallery, the 150-year-old piece 'Ulysses and Argus' portrays a deeply moving moment from Homer's epic, The Odyssey. Painted by British artist Briton Rivière in 1871, the work shows Odysseus as he encounters his faithful dog, Argus, following a two-decade separation. This painting draws from Homer's classic tale, which is also set to be adapted into a future film by director Christopher Nolan.
